COMIC: Collide
Title: Collide
Team: Ahhhh Shit (
dustmouth &
phiso_kun)
Tropes: AU
Rating: PG
Warnings/content: Highlight to read *Character Death*
Medium and/or word count: comic: 80 pages
Summary: Sometimes universes, like fate, collide. When that happens, fate does what it can; circumstances do the rest.
(Or, the one where Sirius and Remus almost always find each other, no matter what universe they're in. Almost.)
Notes: Should you want to hear the song Remus plays, go here! Special thanks to the_kevlar_kid for inspiring the imagery in that one scene. A massive thank you to the artist for being so willing and wonderful at making this writer's dream come true! The artist would also like to thank the writer, without whom, this would have been a confused mess on the floor. It has been a long labour of love, and I can't think of anyone better to have been slipping words underneath my pictures.

First off, the whole concept was brilliant. The way the different universes and time frames dance and intertwine was fascinating. Each one was so tantalizing, making me want to explore it deeper, but it was, in the end, the entire whole that made it was it was. Y'all so very much captured that idea of destiny and true love. I have quite a soft spot for this sort of thing, for fate, destiny, and alternative universes, and you made it all work brilliantly.
And, I'll admit it, as a gardener (and, ironically, former cellist, though that is hardly important) the flower bits really made me feel all sorts of things. You got me thinking about the things I grow and they make me (and might make others) feel - and you captured the essence of Sirius beautifully as well. what a phenomenal tool for character development.
Remus as a cellist, young-boy explorer, and wild-west cartographer? Each and every iteration of him - of both of them, really - was compelling and I found myself wishing that there were entire comics about each one of these.
Of course, the art was gorgeous and emotional. I love the way that the art, itself, visually portrayed that idea of intertwining stories and realities. From the string at the beginning to the tiny tear drops and sometimes even flowers that found their way into other realities to the very layout and flow, the art just made me feel the ideas of collision and intertwining. Brilliant! Like the violin and cello duet, the gorgeous art and and writing flowed together like song, the perfect accompaniment to one another. Each was poetry on its own, but together, they were positively symphonic.

The story also reminded me of that song "the highwayman" by the highwaymen (Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson et al), you know when they sing about the same person returning in different eras in different guises... Looking forward to team reveals - killer job, mystery team!

James in the last one was a touch of hilarity,a much needed one after all the angst. Loved it!
